The distribution of impregnated mosquito nets (Milda) achieved near-total coverage in the regions of Adamaoua, Far North, North, Littoral, and West, the Ministry of Public Health’s National Coordination Committee of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership (CNRBM) reveals in its 2023 Annual Work Plan.  Coverage was only partial in the Southwest and Northwest regions, the document informs.

The committee further reports that 87% of pregnant women attending prenatal consultations at healthcare facilities received mosquito nets, and 80% underwent intermittent treatment for malaria. These results are deemed “generally satisfactory” in terms of managing and treating simple malaria and conducting epidemiological surveillance.

This year, the fight against malaria saw a significant advancement with the introduction of a vaccine against the disease. "The vaccine has been deployed in 42 health districts across all 10 regions of the country, in both public and private health centers. This launch follows the receipt of 331,200 vaccine doses in November 2023. Additional doses are expected in the coming weeks," the World Health Organization (WHO) reports. The organization notes that "Cameroon is among the 11 countries most affected by malaria globally. The country recorded more than 3 million cases and over 3,800 deaths in 2021."

IIn 2022, the Ministry of Public Health reported having distributed more than 16 million impregnated mosquito nets.
