CAF President: Samuel Eto'o Not Above the Law in Match-Fixing Probe

In a recent interview with France 24 journalist Marc Perelman in Morocco, Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), addressed the ongoing investigation into Samuel Eto'o, head of Cameroon's Football Federation (Fecafoot). Eto'o, a legendary footballer, denies accusations of match-fixing, calling them "slanderous." However, Motsepe emphasized CAF's commitment to the investigation, stating, "No one is above the law, not even me."

While some social media influencers have questioned CAF's dedication, Motsepe assured them the investigation will follow "global principles, including the presumption of innocence." He did not disclose details on the investigation's progress or provide a timeline for a verdict.

On April 17th, Eto'o responded to a CAF summons. Reports suggest the former Cameroon captain plans to counterattack. In February, he told France 24 he was suing CAF, accusing them of trying to undermine his football achievements.

The investigation stems from complaints by Cameroonian football stakeholders alleging fraud and favoritism by Eto'o. The core evidence is an audio recording where Eto'o allegedly discusses matters with Valentine Nkwain, president of a newly promoted club, Victoria United of Limbe. The plaintiffs claim the conversation suggests potential match-fixing. CAF's final decision on this matter is still pending.
