Camrail Commits to Improving Passenger Train Traffic on its Network

Cameroon Railways (Camrail), the concessionary company for Cameroon’s rail network, pledged to enhance the monitoring of passenger train movements, according to a press release issued on March 25. This decision comes in response to the dissatisfaction expressed by residents living near the railway network in the departments of Nyong-et-Kelle (Centre region) and Sanaga-Maritime (Littoral region).

On March 17, these residents forced trains to halt at the Sodibanga and Mandjab stations, a situation that lasted nearly eight hours. They were protesting the accumulated delays of passenger trains. Camrail expressed regret over the incident, which was eventually resolved through the intervention of administrative authorities.

To prevent a recurrence, Camrail has committed to implementing measures to facilitate the flow of convoys along the railway line, particularly passenger trains, which will continue to enjoy “priority train” status.

However, Camrail’s focus extends beyond ensuring the smooth flow of passenger trains. The subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) is also aiming to improve passenger transport conditions, a priority for the Cameroon government. As an initial measure, Camrail has promised to expedite renovation work on passenger stations.
