Jacques Bessala, a police officer, got arrested on April 13 alongside three alleged robbers by the judicial police. The four used to operate together with automatic guns, security sources reported.
According to Commissioner Denis Nto, deputy director of criminal investigations at the judicial police, the gang specialized in robbing pharmacies and bakeries. State media CRTV also reported that they were preparing to deliver a batch of medicines stolen the day before from the pharmacy in Ngoumou, a small town west of Yaoundé when they got arrested. Jacques Bessala was the one who used his status as a police officer to bypass controls.
During the arrest, the judicial police also seized two automatic pistols and other equipment including hammers and nail pullers. This operation is part of the fight against insecurity in the city.
