The National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (Antic) has launched a communication campaign on the spread of false information on the coronavirus pandemic.

Before Antic, the Ministers of Communication (Mincom), René Emmanuel Sadi, and Public Health (Minsanté), Manaouda Malachie, during a joint press conference on March 25, 2020, in Yaounde, reported a “proliferation of false news and fanciful allegations on the methods of prevention or treatment of coronavirus infections.”

Antic specifies that this is an abuse punishable by the law of 21 December 2010 on cybersecurity and cybercrime. “Let's always verify information before publishing it, because the publication and/or propagation of false information is punishable by imprisonment of six months to two years and/or a fine of five to ten million CFA francs,” the agency said.

Antic invites Cameroonians to dial the USSD code *063# to get the latest information and advice from the government about coronavirus in Cameroon.
