The French institutes of Douala and Yaounde will host the fifth edition of the pan-African comedy festival Africa Stand-up from October 19 to November 2, 2021. According to the organizers, 34 comedians from Côte d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Congo-Brazzaville, and Cameroon are expected.

The unprecedented fact for this edition is that a full evening will be devoted to the DRC and Congo-Brazzaville. "The two countries have the highest number of comedians we trained over the past ten years and we want them to feel involved,” explains Valery Ndongo, humorist, and promoter of the festival.

Another innovation announced for this edition is the show dedicated exclusively to African comedians living on the continent. "This is the first festival on the continent that promotes African comedians living on the continent. It is important to promote local artists who need visibility to advance their careers,” the promoter explained.

The latter adds that they entered into a partnership with the Montreux festival to select comedians who travel every year to perform in Switzerland, France, and soon in Canada, Côte d'Ivoire, and South Africa.
