The Ngaoundéré III district council in the Adamaoua region organised a training session for motorbike taxi drivers on March 16, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport. The initiative aimed to teach life-saving measures in emergency situations, such as road accidents, while awaiting delayed assistance.

Motorbike taxi drivers, who account for most of the accidents in the commune, were the primary targets of this training. According to local authorities, 95% of the 286 motorbike taxis in Ngaoundéré III are involved in traffic accidents.

The training, delivered by road safety experts and the Cameroon Red Cross (CRC), covered first aid, roadside first aid, and the Highway Code.

Motorbike taxis are the main mode of transport in the commune of Ngaoundéré III and throughout the region, popular among schoolchildren and students. However, most drivers lack formal training in motorbike driving, often do not hold a licence, disregard the Highway Code, and are known for speeding. These factors expose both drivers and passengers to accidents, potentially leading to serious injuries or even fatalities.
