The Northwest Regional Council in Cameroon announced the construction of a dry port in Bamenda. This is part of a vast project for which the council plans to invest more than CFA3 billion in 2022.
According to the head of the finance committee of the Northwest Regional Assembly, this dry port will relieve the ports of Douala and Kribi for the clearance of goods. The construction of this facility will start as early as 2022.
Another dry port is underway in the Central region, about 15km north of Yaoundé. It will serve as a storage center for goods coming from the port of Douala in particular. As a reminder, the general code of decentralized territorial authorities allows regional councils to collect certain taxes, such as customs duties.
